Update

10 whole days since my last post. Wow, I am slacking. I have started what I call a granny crochet project, a tissue box cover to match my nursery. I put the cover together in a couple of hours, but I need to sit down and make the embelishments now.
We have been working on several home repair projects: renovating our main bathroom, finishing the paint job in the laundry room, painting the ceiling in the nursery and touching up the paint. In the mean time my house is covered in a thin layer of construction dust and I constantly have the windows open in order to air out any toxic fumes. I told DH he is on painting duty since I think that I've gotten enough fumes just painting the nursery. He hates painting and is not pleased, but understands my reasoning.
My church knit/crochet club met yesterday and we had the best turn out yet. Seven little girls all happily knitting away. I've only gotten a couple donations out of them. Mostly they just like to socialize and show off their projects. It is fun to interact with cute little kids as opposed to the sarcastic deliquents I teach on a daily basis. : )

I miss bulky

So I have been stuck on the same project for awhile now. I finished the burgundy shawl and am on to a pretty aqua one. (The burgundy one took less than a week, probably like 4 hours of actual work.) However, this yarn is actually a normal worsted weight and it is taking me forever to get any distance on it. I got so used to the bulkier yarns or holding two strands at once, that I forgot how much slower it is with worsted. On the other hand, it looks really intricate and pretty, but it really is all double crochets.

I'm making mine with Red Heart "Soft Yarn" in Turquoise because it is much cheaper than the LB Microspun and it has a nice subtle sheen to it. I am still working on the first skein, so I'm guessing it will take about three to get it to the length I want it.

Prayer Shawls

I saw this pattern for a prayer shawl at LionBrand.com and it inspired me start the knit/crochet club at church. It was really easy. The whole thing is just half double crochet using Lion Brand Homespun. Love that yarn! The nubby texture and swirly colors make for an expensive looking finished product. It was in a dark purple color, but I don't remember the name.

Now I am working on one in "Antique" to donate. A warning about Homespun, although they were the same dyelots the skeins I used for this one were significatly different colors. I hope that it kinda looks like I did it on purpose, but I would have prefered that they matched like the first one I made.
