He's Here!

"Peanut" was born on August 12th at 1:01pm.
8lbs, 11ozs 21 1/2"

It was a long 18-19 hour labor, but we survived doing it all natural as planned! No major complications and a healthy baby and mom in the end. Probably won't be posting too much while I get this nursing and mama thing down.

update

I've been working on some items to sell this fall. So far just novelty yarn scarves and baby blankets. I've had an opportunity come up to sell some items on-line on an established site. I can't quite commit to anything at the moment, but I'm trying to build some inventory either way. So, that's all that has been going on here.

I've really been liking this book for blanket ideas. I actually bought it for a friend for Christmas last year, but she got two so I've been "borrowing" one of the copies. I'm working on a baby girl blanket that is a modification of a full-sized afghan in there. I'm not a big fan of afghans and would never buy a book completely devoted to them, but there are a couple in there that I plan on making for gifts.

It's Hot in Herr!

Happy b-day to me! Today I'm 27. We have had a crazy heat wave over here, but most of the country is having the same. Honestly, it just has been too hot to pick up yarn and do anything productive. My poor ac was running all day yesterday, but couldn't get the house temp below 81-82. So today I'm going to reorganize/clean my kitchen. I think I'm finished w/ the nesting energy, but I'm getting bored and it needs to be done. Tonight DH is taking me out for a nice b-day dinner. Stay cool everyone!

new WIPs and shower pic

I thought I'd share this pic of me and DH's grandmom at my shower. She had made some baby items years ago and was saving them. She gave me a crocheted bunting for a present. The funny thing is that she says she no longer remembers how to crochet and can't do it anymore! Obviously she was pretty good at it when she did it.
PS - I look so tired!

Crazy me, I've decided that I'm going to make all four of my brothers afghans for Christmas this year. I had the idea to do this before and have all the yarn in my stash, it's just getting the time to do it. I'll have to divide my crochet time between craft sale inventory and gift making if I am going to get every thing done on time. This is pretty ambitious considering that I still haven't finished making DH's scarf that was supposed to be a gift LAST Christmas! I guess I have knit/crochet ADD.

New Webaddress

I've changed the address for my former teaching blog. Now it'll be my place to post my adventures as a SAMH. If you read that one, be sure to change your book mark to www.mamaknj.blogspot.com. This one will stay the same.

Count down...

Only 2 more days left of exams and then I'm on to summer vacation! Woohoo!
Only 2 more months until my due date! I have so much to do still!

I can't believe I'm on here and not posting any FOs or crochet/knit content. I have been badly neglecting my projects in favor of getting stuff ready for baby. Nesting is in full swing. I dusted off the sewing machine and started making baby washcloths/wipes this week to go along w/ my cloth diaper stash. And I've been prewashing all the cloth dipes too. Meanwhile neglecting all my other laundry. DH is like, "I need underwear too!"
I had my last shower yesterday. It was a lot of fun and everyone was soooo generous! We literally filled up the SUV we borrowed to bring the stuff home in. There wasn't even room for DH's golf clubs and we had to leave them at my moms. LOL There are only a couple little things I need now, like the bedding set. But people gave $ and gift cards so it is all covered. I think all in all, I've spent less than $100 on stuff for the baby. How cool is that?

Update

10 whole days since my last post. Wow, I am slacking. I have started what I call a granny crochet project, a tissue box cover to match my nursery. I put the cover together in a couple of hours, but I need to sit down and make the embelishments now.
We have been working on several home repair projects: renovating our main bathroom, finishing the paint job in the laundry room, painting the ceiling in the nursery and touching up the paint. In the mean time my house is covered in a thin layer of construction dust and I constantly have the windows open in order to air out any toxic fumes. I told DH he is on painting duty since I think that I've gotten enough fumes just painting the nursery. He hates painting and is not pleased, but understands my reasoning.
My church knit/crochet club met yesterday and we had the best turn out yet. Seven little girls all happily knitting away. I've only gotten a couple donations out of them. Mostly they just like to socialize and show off their projects. It is fun to interact with cute little kids as opposed to the sarcastic deliquents I teach on a daily basis. : )

MIA

Sorry I've been absent from Blog world lately. I've been busy with school and home repair projects and haven't had much time for my yarn. I'm still working on that Lion Wrap and have a prayer shawl to finish off. We are taking a little get-away this week, so maybe I'll bring one along to finish. Since we just found out we are having a little BOY(!). I am going to attempt knitting him a sweater-hoodie. I found a "5-hour" pattern on Bev's Country Cottage (link on sidebar) and am hoping it will be easy since I'm still new to the knitting world. This will be my first attempt at an actual sweater. Guess I better check my gauge!

Nesting?

Ok, I don't know if it can be considered nesting when it has nothing to do with getting ready for baby. But I suddently had this desire to organize my stash/sewing/guest room yesterday. I think it was all the time I spent checking out other knit/crochet blogs Saturday. Anyway, I wanted to find all of my WIPs, works-in-progress, or are they UFOs?, unfinished objects, that are stashed about so that I could actually complete some of them.

Oliver surveys the chaos:

Oliver tries to escape the camera:

In the end I unearthed the following UFOs
1) bibs that still need buttons
2) lamb stuffed toy
3) baby blanket to sell, about 90% finished
4) extra yarn for the un-christmas scarf, but where is the scarf?
5) random failed scarf designs
6) a couple unfinished envelope bags
7) an unfinished diaper wrap that I didn't like... so I unraveled it... (it won't let me post a pic, I'll try another post)

Procrastination

Hello internet people/one person who reads my Blog. I apologize for the lack of posts lately. You see, I have been happily knitting/crocheting away, but have no finished projects to show you. I am currently working on my Lion Baby Bath Wrap, some super-easy knit booties, and I am attemping to felt an old sweater as we speak (to make a wool diaper wrap). I should finish the booties today so I can post them soon. I put away the bath wrap because I was tired of single crocheting for days with no end in site. How boring! Also on my agenda for today is to start cleaning out my spare/junk room since it will be my future nursery. We shall see!

An Announcement

I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my first child! In honor of this news I am posting some crocheted baby blankets I have made. Coming in the months ahead, I'm sure I'll be trying out some new baby patterns.

This one was made using Lion Brand Homespun Baby in Pink Carnation. The pattern for the "Little Victory" blanket is available on the yarn package or on the Lion Brand website. However, I improvised a more girly, scalloped boarder than the one on the pattern. I am sending this one to my cousin who just had a little girl this month.

I particularly like the bright color on this one. It was made with Lion Brand Pound of Love in Turquoise. Again, the pattern is on the label or the website. It is called "Hooded Blanket." This one doesn't have a home yet.
